100th post!

This is my 100th post. Jeez. I did an Eska card (Eska is the character from my comic this semester) for my deck of cards....i know it makes no sense in a circus...but it's super cute.

These two are my preview images I guess...I added a spotlight of color (taken from the figures) behind them...still need their suit signs...I like how that looks, and I think I'm going to use it in each one, with possibly more decoration...I haven't decided if I'm going to include the titles of each act or not...probably not since with 52 things I was prone to making shit up eventually. I mean there's a flying fish dude.

I don't think I ever posted the finished piece. This is my favorite...Someday I might go back and mess with it some more, maybe not...Definitely learned a lot from it though.

I'm not gonna mince words here...my spring break was filled with not doing work. Most of the time due to doctor visits and repercussions from switching meds, but also because it was my freakin break. I'm scrambling to catch back up, here's some more work on Rom and Rem. I've decided I wanna pull a standard me and make smoke come out of this bro's mouth like his soul is coming out and it turns into a mass of wings and vulture heads. Maybe use some photo overlay wings for this? Still dunno about the other illustration...I'm way too far gone in this one at this point.

Romulus and Remus Progress

I'm trying to experiment with photos...for the wolf with baby Rom and Rem I took the photos Elliot and I took at the zoo and picked one of the wolf and did two different thresholds and overlayed them and then found pictures I had taken last christmas of my nephew Tucker and did the same thing (I love the convenient one of him reaching up, he was holding a toy he just got and I cropped it out). I'm just playing around with that since I'm finding it hard to think of ways to just maintain that black, white and spot color.

For the one of Romulus and Remus fighting and killinz, I took a photo of Matt and Alex posing and laid a darker thresholded version overtop to bring out shadows, then drew lineart in a layer over those two layers and then made another layer ontop and started painting it over it all, letting the others show through a little and put a texture on top while I painted to see how it would look.

Just experimenting!!! This is one of my first few times trying digital painting...I'm still using a little big of linework but I mainly tried to use some things I picked up from watching Alex paint and watching the tutorials we watched. I need to find that darn slanty brush tho.

Another one

I like this one because I'm having trouble being ok with how the text boxes look cropped around objects AND going overtop of elements. I am feeling like the squares just overlapping the entire image is the way to go because otherwise it seems selective and confusing to me. I'm kind of tempted to throw in labels for the animals and flowers on the bottom to have more text at the bottom and to emphasize the "science" of it.

EDIT--Added one with the "scientific" labels which have rounded corners and kind of progress in a zigzag pattern to emphasize they are separate...I really like this one completed. I don't know if I'll get feedback but I'm going to sit around for a while and hope I do and then print.

A few text mockups?

So I really don't even know where to begin here. Just throwing some ideas together...I tried wrapping it around the guy but that looked really really strange. I wanted to pop the text out like alex did with light squares and that way I wouldn't have to go around the vines...but I dunno about these shapes quite yet...any suggestions?

Spread Again

I took advice from various people and came up with this...I love it. The last page is more avatar-y because of the blue, but I kind of see it as a sunset. About to try some text mockups...I hope I can mount it with the space between each page...
